⚙️ Radius of Hollow (RoH) Guide
The hollow is the concave groove ground into the bottom of your blade. Smaller number = deeper cut = more grip. Larger number = shallower cut = more glide. Source: Sparx Hockey Sharpening 101

⬭ Traditional Hollow
Classic concave groove. Used by the majority of pro and amateur players. What most rinks sharpen by default.
🔥 Flat Bottom (FBV)
Flat center with radius edges. Best of both worlds — improved glide while keeping similar grip to its traditional equivalent.
💡 Not sure where to start? Youth players → try 1/2". High school & adults → try 5/8". NHL players average 5/8" or flatter. Goalies often prefer 7/16". Always debur after sharpening and check both edges are even before skating. — Based on Sparx Hockey Sharpening 101

Age & Level Guide
New to hockey? Here's how the age divisions work, what to expect at each level, and when tryouts typically happen.
📅 Tryout Season
Most Colorado youth hockey tryouts happen in April–May for the following season. Travel / AAA teams may hold supplemental tryouts in summer. House league registration typically opens in June–July.
🏒 House vs Travel
House league is recreational, skill-based placement, lower cost, local games. Travel / AAA is competitive, tryout-based, requires more time and budget. Most kids start in house and move to travel if interested.
Pick-Up Games
Drop-In Hockey
Full game, teams picked on the spot. Different from stick & puck — this is real hockey. Find rinks with adult and youth drop-in sessions.
🏒 Stick & Puck
Unstructured open ice. No teams, no game. You skate, shoot, practice. Usually cheaper. Great for solo skill work or skating with your kid.
🥅 Drop-In Hockey
Organized pick-up game. Teams balanced at the door. Full gear required. Ref may or may not be present. You play a real game with strangers. Great for adults who want game reps.
Adult Hockey
Adult Leagues
Men's, women's, and co-ed leagues across Colorado — from competitive to recreational. Late nights, early mornings, and everything in between.
